The journey

The fast way is the Yamuna Expressway, which starts at Greater Noida and runs 165 kilometres straight to the edge of Agra. From central Delhi you add an hour to reach it. Leaving before six in the morning usually means a clean run; leaving at nine means an hour of Delhi traffic before you even start.

There are service areas roughly every fifty kilometres with toilets, fuel and food. Expressway tolls apply in both directions and are added at cost on top of the drop fare.

Three ways people make this trip

A one-way drop. You are going to Agra and staying, or coming from Agra to catch a flight at Delhi airport. Priced one way, from ₹ 2,449 plus tolls in the Agra to Delhi direction.

A same-day return from Delhi. Leave Delhi around six, reach Agra by ten, see the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort, and be back in Delhi by evening. This is our Same Day Agra Tour, with a fixed price that covers the whole day.

An airport transfer. Straight from Indira Gandhi International to an Agra hotel, or the reverse. Tell us your flight number and we will track it; the driver meets you in arrivals with a board.

Taxi or train?

The Gatimaan Express does Delhi to Agra in about a hundred minutes and is the fastest option on paper. It is excellent if your hotel is near the station at both ends and your timings suit the schedule. A car makes more sense when you are travelling with family or luggage, when you want to stop on the way, when you are arriving on a late flight, or when you want the same vehicle with you all day in Agra rather than hunting for transport at the other end.

Doing it in one day

A Delhi to Agra day trip is long but comfortable if you start early. The order that works: reach Agra by ten, Taj Mahal first while the light is good and the crowds are thinner, lunch around half past one, Agra Fort after that, and leave Agra by five to be back in Delhi for dinner. Add Fatehpur Sikri only if you are starting at five in the morning. Remember that the Taj Mahal is closed on Fridays.
